Welcome friends!

Updated: Mar 3, 2021

Welcome to Britta Miss Chocolate- a new kind of recipe blog.

I’m Britta (pronounced Bree-ta), and I’m tired of scrolling through annoying ads, uncomfortably long stories and endless photos of the same dish just to get to a recipe that someone says is “so good!” but in the end is only “oooo-kay”. You with me?

So I decided to take matters into my own hands, and start a website that has minimal ads (girl’s gotta make a few pennies, amirite?), tried and true recipes with flavor, and photos that showcase the dish. If you can’t make something from a recipe, and need photos every step of the way, this may not be the website for you.

About Me

I’m a social worker that is taking a break from the profession for a bit to delve into my other passions: art and cooking. I’m a project-oriented person, I love a challenge, and I live to experiment creatively. I’ve done everything from narrating on a tour boat and writing copy for an online store, to teaching printmaking to kids and cooking at a bakery, to managing the front desk of a large hotel to waiting tables. I’m married to a chef, who I usually let critique my creations without getting too upset about the response (perfectionism is a character flaw I’m working on).

About the Recipes

I’m hoping to share two recipes every week, and over time build a collection that can become a resource for folks looking for recipes that keep them interested, healthy, and happy. The recipes I share will:

  • Be a reflection of what I eat: mostly plant-based, diverse foods, the occasional animal protein, and lots of baked goods and treats.

  • Be inspired by both international travel and my Scandinavian and German heritage. I’ll end each recipe with ‘var så god’: a Swedish saying that our family says right before eating at any gathering, that can mean anything from “dig in” to “enjoy” to “you’re welcome”.

  • Also include my favorite recipes and methods for fermentation, foraging, pickling and canning in a section called Happy Gut.

  • Be separate from blog posts. While I plan to share my writing and thoughts on lots of different topics, you won’t find these in the recipes themselves! I will be blogging on the Life tab, and recipes will be located in the Food tab. I’ll always link if they are related.

So without further ado… I present to you Britta Miss Chocolate’s first week of recipes!

I can’t wait to share with you, cook with you and hear from you!
